Biggest Trout of My Life

I am not going to dilly dally around the events of this weekend. It was great. Went to the Madison River, the Ruby River, Warm Springs Creek, and some name-redacted ponds and caught fish in each body of water. The weekend started with the biggest trout of my life. A brown trout, 4+ pounds, between 22 to 25" inches (a guestimate), with a massive head took the M&M's streamer that George Kesel tied up for me in some ponds. While, the fishing could only go down from there, I was able to manage some solid fish on the Madison, despite the 40 mph winds and gusts of 60+ mph. The Ruby River, which has been described as a mini-Beaverhead, certainly proved to be worthy stop on our trip as it's browns were healthy and hungry. It was a great weekend of fishing. Check out the video (in HD). I am fully aware that I have two pairs of sunglasses on in portions of this video.

Side Note: Clif from the Lunker Hunt recently spent some time out here in Montana on the Big Horn River. Check out the video, posts, and pictures from his trip. Looks like it was a good one.

Congrats! Nice fish. Nice video.
The droplet of water on the lens makes you like the "anonymous angler" for a moment with the big brown.

Ivan said...

thanks jay. alas, the droplet is the gift and the curse of waterproof cameras.

Love the epic High Life shots. And you can probably cross 24" brown off your list.

thanks Matt. Have to give High Life it's due. I have been debating whether to cross it off or not. I never got the tape on it because I wanted to get it back in the water, but I am fairly sure it reached that landmark.

I want to go right now to the Maddy!!! Good for you...My best was about the same size on the Madison. But, I have to wait until October to go back up. :(

I'm thinking contest for most cracked windshield. Think I've got you beat.

Isn't it too cold for beer? It's brown water season until May 1st. I make the switch when I de-winterize the sprinklers. It's kind of like not wearing white before Memorial day.

Sweet fish porn!

I believe there's an ancient Chinese proverb that goes something like this... "All great theses are preceded by great fish jumping out of water to pursue the fly"

May your correct fly be tied for the thesis...and congrats on the Big Mama.

p.s.
Think this is the best video to date (although I'm hoping that the music will some day actually be more Montana-like....). SOme of the longer shots could Bureau of Tourism Montana bits.
Looking @ this video..I'm thinking there's not way in hell you'll ever move back to the East Coast.

@ Gary - you definitely have me beat. My windshield is in perfect condition, it is my friend Bucko's car whose windshield has been damaged. With regards to beer, it is never too cold for a beer, especially a high life. I certainly understand your current setup, brown water does work well in the winter.

@FCFT - thank Sean and FCFT

@DarkoV/Tats - I certainly hope so. that is apparently the path i am taking. thanks - i know the music could be a little abrasive. but, I was so excited for my "pig mama" that I chose the most abrasive music possible.
